Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as the President of our
association for the year 2011. I understand that leadership brings with it
responsibility and also opportunity. Opportunities to make a difference in the
way we learn and teach, in the way we deliver our services to our patients and
in the way our profession and specialty is recognized by our peers and public.
Some feel that our profession is at crossroads. Throughout history every
generation has felt the same. At times of change, progress is made by choosing
the right fork of the decision tree. I as your President, feel that the future of
Plastic Surgery is very bright and it can be made even brighter by our concerted
actions in the decades that follow.
Specialties developed when surgeons with special skills filled in the need of the
patients and patients let those specialties grow which excelled in providing a
perceivable difference in outcome. Expressing the same view point a Tamil
scholar said that the growth of the country mirrors the growth of the
individuals. There lies the message for us. As individuals, let us excel in
everything that we do. Every day we are given an opportunity to excel by every
patient whom we treat.
